Angel's Song - Proclamation - Luke 2:1-20

This Advent season we will be looking at different Messiah Songs. This week is Angel's Song when they appeared to the shepherds in the field. The theme for Advent this week is Proclamation.

Helpful Context

  • God has been silent for 400 years.
  • People are still waiting for a Messiah
  • Israel was totally conquered at this point.
  • Shepherds are just normal low end of the social spectrum guys that were near Jerusalem doing the normal things that they do every day.
  • notice the repeated theme in scripture that God uses the weak to achieve his purposes in order to demonstrate He did it.


Questions

  • Look at all the ways God worked which all evidencied his soveriegnty.
  • Put yourself in the place of one of the shepherd. How would you have responded?
  • Why were the shepherds afraid?
  • What makes the good news of Jesus good news?
  • Why does the good news of Jesus wipe away fear?
  • The idea that the divine savior came in the form of a human baby would have been very hard for a jew of the time to accept.
  • Have you ever encountered a doctrine that was new to you that was difficult for you accept?
  • Looking at verses 12-14, what do we learn about how we should praise/worship God?
  • What was the reaction of the shepherds after their encounter with the angels?
  • Read verses 16-7 and then read "The Great Commission" in Matthew 28:18-20 and record your observations?
  • Would you be able to say that you live with urgency to proclaim the good news of Jesus?
  • Who is someone in your life that needs to hear the good news?
  • What does this passage teach you about God?
  • What does this passage teach you about mankind?
  • How does this passage teach the Gospel?
